Should you add Film to your wedding package? | Houston Wedding Photographer Jess Golden

You may be on the fence when it comes to adding film to your wedding package and thats okay…

And there is no pressure at ALL coming from us that you should add it.

It’s really for those who love the nostalgia and the process of film and anyone who really is just obsessed with it as we are hahaha! So if thats you…. then you have come to the right place and we are so damn glad you are here!

A fun fact is that we actually develop and scan in our home!

I (Jess) have been using film since I was around 9 years old when i found an old camera of my grandpas and started using it from that moment on…it was game over for me which is how and why you are even seeing this blog in the first place soooo it all started from there and then i went into high school and joined year book and was always that kid with a camera on me no matter WHAT bc you just never knew when anything cool would have happened and ya gotta catch the moment before its gone.

Just take a look at Vi+Griffin’s Tea Ceremony that was held at her uncles home.

It was intimate, short and sweet and these are just the film photos not the digitals (which each medium has its place in my opinion) and honestly these are prob some of my favorites because aI love the way film captures color in its truest form that just feels exactly how you remembered it.

I call this HONEST photos because there is no photoshop, just real people, real moments and real colors.

Literally so freakin beautiful.

I like keeping the borders on when i scan because it just gives that extra film feeling.

I allow my clients to crop them or keep them as they are this way they can do what they want with them and they have options.

But if you have been wondering if adding Film to your wedding package is worth it, I think you need to ask yourself these few questions:

Is the aesthetic worth it to you? Film has a warmth, grain, and timeless quality that’s genuinely hard to replicate digitally. But do you love it, or just kind of like it?

Do you trust your photographer’s film work specifically? Shooting film is a different skill set. Film errors (exposure, color casts) can’t always be fixed in post.

Can you let go of control? Film means fewer total images, no chimping on set, and some shots simply won’t turn out. If you’re the type who wants every moment covered, film’s limitations might stress you out rather than delight you.

What will you actually do with these images? Film prints beautifully …. large wall prints, albums, heirlooms. If you’re mostly planning to share on Instagram or keep things digital, the difference shrinks considerably.

Are you buying it for you or for the look? Film is having a moment right now. Make sure you genuinely connect with the aesthetic and it’s not just trend pressure you’ll be looking at these photos for decades.

How does your partner feel? If one of you is excited and one is indifferent, that budget might be better spent on something you both value equally.

The honest gut check: if its just to keep up with trends its prob not right for you but if you LOVE film in all its glory and are obsessed with it like us … THEN YES its totally worth it 💜
